    TAHO. anyone?
    edited... Taho anyone??

The first time I heard that we were to do a magazine, I wanted to be part of the heads. It was my job during high school and I know I can do better. But the problem doesn’t lie in my hands, the stereotypes wandering around and the close-minded people I am with. I don’t blame them.

Magazine production was never easy. There were times that we have to panic because of pressure of sorts. There were also these times that we need to sacrifice and die for ourselves because of the deadline and the goal of finishing it. There were problems along the way and I tell you, problems- not good.

Along the course, there were people judged of being irresponsible. Also, people who just bursted out of anger because we were already lacking time.

On the other hand, I was just peacefully smiling at my place. Since I am assigned to the literary works on our magazine, I finished early. But as soon as I saw the magazine, I also bursted out of my zone! It was very irritating that none of  the literary works of my classmates and I were posted.  huh- I'm unsatisfied.

But excluding the fact that your effort to do something assigned to you wasn't even recognized, the magazine was well-made.

    KUDOS 1CA3!! ^__^

    TAHO..anyone?
The first thing came to my mind- "high school.."

    Ask me why?
Well, I was the president of the class when I graduated high school, and served as SC president for 2 years before being a class president. It was difficult for times like these to unite the class for a common goal, a high grade. I know what does our president feels, Pam Magbitang, when we were already starting the project. And never it made me feel it was easy.

First, as a part of the Editorial Board, I was kinda out of my zone when I wrote the essay about the Historical Figure, and it was one of the must have in our magazine. As much as possible I wanted to do everything so I can feel the pressure on being a leader, but unfortunately, no one seemed to answer my begging. I saw the finished material just moments ago and to tell you the truth, I was UNSATISFIED.

    Print Media
Print Media... newspapers, magazines, pamphlets, etc.

Everything written that has something to do with the media.
Media is everything related to mass communications.

People are different. There are who is visually or some who is auditory. We have different ways to be educated. Different ways to be updated on what is happening in the media right now. Television can be a very good source of informations, a lot of people, lazy to read, watch television. But their are those who read because they don't have time to watch television or listen to the radio.

In our society today, it is very hard not to know what's up. Everyday things change and you are accountable to every change that happens. Since our society is very judgmental, a small mistake on wearing something out of fashion makes you, now what is that word? Sorry, I forgot for I haven't been called one, AHA!  "baduy".

Since print media is also a media, obviously, it influence us in every aspect of our life. Magazines now are very specialized that every group of people have their own type. In that way, we are being secluded on what we really should be.

I don't know if using paper as a medium of mass media is effective now. I mean, we already have television as a source, a good one too, but why do we need to cut off trees and make them our paper? Isn't it more dangerous. Actually it's just okay if we know how to plant trees again, but the sad part is, we don't.

    Information Revolutions
So far, we've discussed the five Information Revolutions. In those five information revolutions, it's very obvious that mass media is developing. It all started from the simple need for record-keeping, then people maximized their resources. A lot of inventions contributed to what we now know is mass media and they were later on improved. Before, people go out to entertain themselves and their is a big need for transportation. But since machines were introduced to make our work easier, seldom do the people go out.

Since their are a lot of emerging promising inventions, also emerged different advertisements and businesses, helping the people financially. But since the promising inventions were only a few and considered "high-tech" during those times, they are required to pay a high amount of money.

One information revolution happened after another, meaning it took a long time before they could invent something better than the original. There were a lot of efforts before they could achieve everything that we have right now.

Reflecting on how people lived during the first revolution, i realized that we don't need that much high-tech gadgets to support our living. People back then survived without mp3, DVD, Cds, computers, video games, cellphones, cameras, etc. It is because they still don't know that this things could happen. But if such inventions didn't emerge until now, I believe we could live better. There will be no distractions. After all, they are just to satisfy our wants, leisures. That's why they are called leisures, because we can do without these things.

Another reflection is how fast they can invent or improve something. Back then, they have to wait for several years before an invention can be perfected and can satisfy their needs. For example, an abacus. The abacus took many years before it can be a computer. The chinese invented the abacus for computing, they never included internet in their objectives. But what do we have now? A simple computer isn't just used for computing, actually it's not used for computing at all! Computers now is for internet and subject related matters. Now there is a wider field on computers. From simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, we formulated trigonometry, calculus, algebra and geometry. Things have been complicated but easier with the help of these machines.

So if now we have a cellphone that can download up to 300 songs, store messages up to 500, mega pixels of 3.0, a memory card of 512 MB, with internet access and banking access, what could be next?

Society is fast-changing. The more complicated things get, the simpler we can achieve what we want, that we, forget about satisfying our needs.

    War of the World
As I place myself as an audience of this radio show, I feel like running towards anything not caring about hurting myself at all. In short, I want to panic.

At the begin of the broadcast, the announcers were all calm. But towards the climax, of course, they get to panic a little. The alternation of the music and the broadcast is very good, seems like you wouldn't think of it as a joke. It was really a "flash" report. The drama started as an apparently ordinary music program, interrupted by news flashes.

Addition to its effectiveness is the lack of other source of news that time. Since television was not yet available as a source of broadcasting, people rely much on the radio televise. The participants, I should say, were very believable. Ironically, it was very disappointing to realize that it was all fiction. I mean, I spent almost an hour sticking my ears to the speakers, wanted to know what could happen next. But as it ends, I was relieved that it was all plain drama.

After the radio show, i lost interest on listening and immediately wanted to forget about the said topic. Probably, most of the listeners that time lost their trust on radio broadcasting, but for sure, some were entertained.

Criticizing the whole program as an audience now, it started very unclear, the broadcast is kind of a blur, I guess its the signal's fault. It was very entertaining knowing already that it was fiction. Al the actors are very good, even their facts and storyline. The music or the sound effects are well-presented. Considering that it is a radio show years before the radio shows we have today, they already have the sense of entertainment. It was an advantage for Orson Welles to have a unique view of entertainment. Back then, people wanted to laugh because of the struggle for survival and of course because they wanted to relax. But for Welles, laughing isn't the only form of entertainment the people could get. It was a bit risky for him to try this things, especially when it wasn't mentioned in the beginning that it was just a play.

I also wanted to include that people back then were gullible. Maybe because radio was very influential, and because Marsian invasion were very unusual during those times.

    understanding the media

i am one of those people who value every minute of watching television. i am not much into watching because, honestly, i think the value of each program is decreasing if you would look at it as something informative. a lot of programs now focus about getting people's attention by offering them what they might need. MONEY for example, i am not against variet shows that gives money, i mean it is very good for our fellow filipinos, but instead of just focusing on their "deeds" and the dancers that doesn't know anything but shake their bodies even if others see what should not be seen, they should offer some information that can be very substantial to everybody.

national geographic is a perfect example, but instead people ignore it because they say it's boring. i say, information is not a boring subject, most especially if it offers a lot that you can use for your life, and maybe this could be a life-saver. knowing a lot, or even a small portion, of things can be very helpful. involving yourself with different fields of knowledge is your key to prevent something from happening.

example, not everybody knows that a kangaroo rat exists. knowing it can be a very interesting subject and you could also share your knowledge to others. did you know that Johann Vaaler is the inventor of paper clips? how about the largest flower in the world is the rafflesia arnoldi? maybe you would know that if you use your time on surfing the net with right purposes and watching informative programs.

again, i am not against the variety shows that entertain people, i personally think that it is a need for relaxation, what i think is, we need to have more informative programs and fun at the same time to invite people to watch, learn and have fun. i guess, what we now need are people who can make this possible. the people who cares about what should we know and have, not what we want and crave for. afterall, it is the beginning of desires and addictions.
